Macfrut to stay in Romagna

The pavilions of Rimini Fiera confirmed until 2018

Cesena – Exhibitors are not convinced with the idea of relocating Macfrut to Milan, since they consider its current location to be adequate and highly appealing for visitors. This is the outcome of the "survey" conducted by Cesena Fiera and addressed to some of the leading traders in the fruit and vegetable sector with regard to the proposal of hosting the 2017 edition of Macfrut in Milan during Tuttofood. In consideration of this, the Board of Directors of Cesena Fiera has confirmed the pavilions of Rimini Fiera for the next three editions of Macfrut, the only trade fair in the sector financed by the Ministry of Economic Development.

The President of Cesena Fiera, Renzo Piraccini, has written the following to Corrado Perboni, Managing Director of Fiera Milano: “The proposal (to host Macfrut 2017 in Milan, author's note) was not well received by many of the exhibitors who took part in the survey. In particular, exhibitors in the machine and materials sector were totally against it and the feedback was mostly negative also among producers. The common concern is that, if Macfrut were to be held in the same context of a trade fair focused on products such as Tuttofood, it may lose its characteristic identity as a supply chain trade fair, a distinctive feature that shows the great value on which the re-launch policy of this event is based. Moreover, with this proposal, the supply chain would not be brought closer together but this would actually create an additional gap between the various sectors and among exhibitors.”

Consequently, there is the risk of creating a further rift within the fruit and vegetable sector, which has found a shared goal, namely, to re-launch and internationalise Macfrut. This process will be further developed in the 2016 edition, which is expected to attract about 1,000 buyers from all around the world.

"The majority of traders in the supply chain believe that Italy, the most important producer of fruit and vegetables in Europe, together with Spain, and world-leading country in the field of technology and packaging, should have its own trade fair-showcase in this strategic sector - Piraccini explains – Italy’s fruit and vegetable trade fair can only be Macfrut, and traders have clearly confirmed this.
