Macfrut, increasingly international

Cesena – Macfrut is becoming increasingly international. On Monday 7 November 2016, the Macfrut Committee gathered to define the strategic guidelines for the 2017 edition (to be held at the Rimini Expo Centre from 10-12 May). During the meeting, attended by about 40 sector professionals from all over Italy, guidelines were established on the activities to be carried out in the coming months, especially with regard to the international nature of the event.
With an extensive schedule, the trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector will be involved in missions in various parts of the world, choosing countries with strategic markets for Italian companies. After stopping in South Africa on its tour last October, this month Macfrut will be presented on two different occasions in Guatemala and Argentina. In December, the tour will stop in Pakistan and in two African countries, Kenya and Sudan, where the demand is strong especially in the pre-harvest segment.
In January, instead, a presentation will be held in China, the partner country for the 2017 edition, whose main fruit and vegetable importers are expected to attend the event. Today, China is Italy’s main export market for kiwi fruit but also a major buyer of technology for this sector. The last stage of the Macfrut presentation tour will be in Colombia in March.
Moreover, special attention will be paid to buyers from Northern Europe, who are highly interested in the organic sector. The presence of Macfrut Organic, which promotes organic produce, of which Italy is a leading producer, ensures great appeal for Northern European distribution chains.
These international visits will be supported by other activities involving countries that have taken part in previous editions with the presence of both foreign institutions and companies, which, at the 2016 edition, amounted to 23% of total exhibitors.
"In the last few years, Macfrut has been strongly focusing on its international appeal – President of Macfrut Renzo Piraccini explains – We have achieved positive results. In fact, at the last edition, 33% of participants were foreign, amounting to a 50% increase. Italian companies are currently seeking new markets, and Macfrut aims to be the platform for promoting Italy's excellent products and services in the global market."
