Macfrut Road show in Argentina

Cesena – Last week the road show to present Macfrut 2017 took place, stopping in the major production areas of Argentina (Mendoza, S Juan, Neuquen and Rio Negro), the Central Market of Buenos Aires and involving major organisations in the fruit and vegetable sector and those promoting agricultural exports.
Argentina was present at last year's edition of the trade fair with an institutional stand and a large number of export companies, but an even greater participation is expected for the 2017 edition.
In addition to traditional production, such as pears, apples and citrus fruits, the production of seedless grapes, berries, cherries and organic crops is on the increase in this South American country.
Argentina has huge potential in the fruit and vegetable sector, scarcely developed over the last few years due to domestic issues. The situation has now become favourable and the new government intends to promote international trade and the significant decrease in transport costs - a 40-foot reefer container with a load capacity of 20 tonnes, from Buenos Aires to a European port, costs approximately 1,700 dollars - favours exports.
This country is also an excellent market for some of Italy's counter-seasonal produce, especially for kiwifruit, favoured by the cost of maritime transport in this particularly low period. Today, a 40-foot reefer container from an Italian port to Buenos Aires costs less than 1,000 dollars.
"With this favourable situation - says Renzo Piraccini, President of Cesena Fiera - Argentinian companies are exploring the great opportunity offered by Macfrut as a showcase for the international market. And this interest will be demonstrated by an even greater presence at the 2017 edition".
