Macfrut promoted in Tehran

Macfrut at the Iran-Italy Business Forum

In Tehran, a Forum was held between Italy and Iran, chaired by Deputy Minister Carlo Calenda, to evaluate the opportunities for cooperation in various economic sectors, including the agro-industry.
Following the nuclear deal of July 2015, it is likely that the economic sanctions against Iran, which strongly restricted trade exchanges in the last 12 years, will be lifted next spring. In fact, according to a recent study, if the sanctions are lifted, the country’s exports may increase to about 3 billion euros between 2015 and 2018, which would also involve the fruit and vegetable sector.
The President of Cesena Fiera, Renzo Piraccini, also attended the Forum, where he seized the opportunity to introduce Macfrut to local traders.
Iran is a major producer of fruit and vegetables, with about 16 million tonnes produced per year, and is in need of renewing its supply chain completely. The country is particularly interested in plant nurseries, agricultural mechanisation, irrigation systems able to bring water savings, and post-harvest processing technologies.
Macfrut 2015 was attended by an Iranian delegation comprising 12 traders who, on that occasion, already showed great interest in the Italian system.
"Due to Iran’s great interest in the sector and its need to invest, we intend to significantly increase the presence of Iranian traders at Macfrut 2016," explains Renzo Piraccini, President of Cesena Fiera.
