Macfrut 2017 to be held in May

The Committee gives the green light after meeting at Cesena Fiera
Renzo Piraccini: “A decision shared by sector professionals”
Cesena – The 2017 edition of Macfrut will be held in May, precisely from 10 to 12 May at Rimini Fiera. This is what the Macfrut Committee decided during the meeting held on Monday 21 March at Cesena Fiera, which was attended by about 50 sector professionals from across Italy representing the entire fruit and vegetable supply chain. All participants agreed unanimously on this change of dates and pointed out the many strengths of this decision.
First of all, one of its strengths is the focus on international appeal. By choosing the month of May, Macfrut places itself right in the middle of the year, better distancing itself from other international events in this sector. This is a crucial decision given that Cesena Fiera has been focusing on speeding up the internationalisation process, in fact the 2016 edition will be attended by about 1,000 buyers from all over the world from five continents. This will have an even greater effect on the 2017 edition, since it is likely that eight pavilions will be set up at Rimini Fiera for this occasion, two more compared to the first edition held in Rimini in 2015.
In Italy, Macfrut is strengthening its identity as a supply chain trade fair dedicated to exhibitors, which, for a long time, had been requesting to bring the event forward to a more convenient time of the year to better suit their business needs.
“The decision to move Macfrut to May is the result of a process shared with sector professionals – Renzo Piraccini, President of Macfrut, explains – and it is an integral part of the re-launch initiative that began two years ago. In addition to confirming Macfrut’s role as Italy’s leading showcase for the fruit and vegetable sector, this also shows that we are carrying on in the direction of a supply chain trade fair, a distinctive feature that the industry has attributed to us at international level. After all, May is the month in which Macfrut was held originally, until it was moved to September in 2008.”
At the meeting, the situation so far of the 2016 edition was analysed, six months before the start of the event (scheduled for 14-16 September). As of today, 71% of the available spaces have been sold (more than 80% if we consider the areas to be confirmed by foreign or institutional exhibitors), amounting to 38,500 square metres gross in seven pavilions (5 dedicated to post-harvest and 2 to pre-harvest). This year, for the 2016 edition, there will be two entrances to the trade fair. The number of new exhibitors expected is also impressive, as well as those who will be returning to Macfrut, in fact altogether they will occupy a total area of more than 2,000 square metres.
